    There are many majors out there especially in the College of Business from accounting to finance to management. They all are similar and different in their own way but what would it be like to be a marketing major?

    The first two years are pretty standard for every student. Getting an opportunity to get your general course work that everyone has to take. This is a great opportunity to make sure you get a chance to see different subjects and help you decide your major if you are undecided.

    Not only will you get the chance to learn about marketing in the classroom but can have many opportunities to learn about marketing in other ways in a university setting. Depending on the University there are many organizations that help students get first hand experiences in the field of marketing.

    Organizations like the American Marketing Association help develop students who have a passion for marketing giving them hands on opportunity to work with different businesses and students to help design, sell and advertise on the college level. With over 250 collegiate chapters across the United States and 76 professional chapters this is another resource to look at if considering a major in marketing.

     

    Life as a Marketing Major

    Getting a degree in marketing typically will lead you into careers such as a product manager, franchiser, marketing manager, fund raiser, market researcher, sales manager, media buyer, sales promotion manager, and public relation director to name just a few possible careers.

    The good thing about getting a degree in marketing is that the field is expanding now more than ever and companies are looking at furthering there brand and getting there name out there among the sea of other competitors and advertisers.

    Currently according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the projected growth for jobs in the sales and marketing industry to increase by 9 percent from 2014-2024.

    Marketing gives you a unique opportunity unlike other majors in different colleges to be able to enter almost any industry. Just about every business plan requires some level of marketing from advertising, market research, public relations, and other areas that would highlight and promote the business.
