On May 12th and 13th, graduates from the Colleges of Agriculture & Natural Resources, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering and Applied Science, Health Sciences and Law were conferred their degrees. At a variety of dates throughout May, graduates from the UW Outreach School at several locations in the state including Torrington, Cheyenne, Casper, Gillette, Sheridan, Rock Springs, Riverton, Jackson and Powell celebrated the receipt of their degrees as well. In total, we welcomed approximately 2,000 graduates as our newest alumni -- bringing the total number of living alumni to over 125,000. As students, they have received a top-notch education and now, we look forward to building a thriving relationship with them as alumni and seeing the impact these new graduates will have through their careers in their communities.
Commencement is the capstone for us to connect with new graduates as they depart Wyoming and head off to start their lives. The May 2017 Commencement was particularly special as we continued the tradition, which began in 2013, of presenting each UW graduate, including those earning their degrees in UW outreach centers throughout the state of Wyoming, their 2017-18 Alumni Association membership along with the Steamboat lapel pin.
Our alumni are one of the greatest assets of the University. We want our new alumni to connect with Cowboys and Cowgirls living around the world and remain engaged with their alma mater, giving back though career support in opening employment opportunities, advocating for prospective students to attend UW, supporting scholarships and contributing to other priorities within the colleges and other activities on our campus. No matter how far away from Laramie and Wyoming life takes our alumni, please remember the University will always be a home for you.
My best in Brown and Gold,
