UW Alumni Association Plans Membership Appreciation Day

    August 14, 2017

The University of Wyoming Alumni Association is planning an afternoon of fun, football, and friendship to show its appreciation to UWAA members.

Membership Appreciation Day will feature a buffet lunch leading up to the Wyoming Cowboy football game against the Oregon Ducks, on Saturday, September 16. The lunch will take place at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, 222 S. 22nd St. from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. Following the event, members and guests can stay for the Pokes Pre-Game Pep Rally hosted by the UW Foundation that will feature Coach Bohl, Western Thunder Marching Band and Cheer Team, and the Cowboy Walk.

According to UWAA Executive Director Keener Fry, “We are excited to welcome our UWAA members back to Laramie for this historic football weekend as the Cowboys host the Pac 12 powerhouse Oregon Ducks. Our members have made it possible for the UWAA to accomplish our original mission to 'promote the University interests and the affiliation of its graduates' for over 122 years, and we are elated to express our gratitude to them at the Membership Appreciation Day lunch.”

UWAA board member Sean Valentine (B.S. '12, M.B.A. '13) describes why this sort of event is so important for alumni, no matter when they graduated. “Being a part of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association as a lifetime member gives me the opportunity to embrace the saying ‘once a cowboy, always a cowboy.’ It allows me the opportunity to engage with UW by staying up to date on what is happening on campus and connecting with current students and fellow alumni. Most importantly, through this engagement, my passion and excitement for Wyoming and everything that makes it so great and unique is refueled.”

Board President Tim Wilson (B.S. '98) adds, "With alumni in every county in Wyoming, every state in the U.S., and dozens of countries across the globe, UWAA plays an important role in connecting our alumni back to UW.  The University has some amazing things going on both on campus and amongst its distinguished alumni, and there is no easier way to spread the word than through our network of 125,000 alumni. If you haven't reconnected back to UW, better now than never!"

The Membership Appreciation buffet is free to UWAA members and one guest. There is a charge of $20 for each additional guest, and a charge of $8 for children 11 and under. Lifetime UWAA members may receive one complimentary drink. All members and guests will enjoy the cash bar, NCAA football on big screens and the unique opportunity to build school spirit throughout the afternoon. UWAA members will also receive a UW pride gift.

Those interested in attending must RSVP by September 12 by registering at http://wyoalumni.uwyo.edu/uwaa17. A UWAA membership card must be shown to enter the event. Download the UWAA App through the App Store or Google Play for a membership card.
