Moving in, moving out, moving around; those are the key words the University of Wyoming Nordic Ski Team is looking for when it comes to their non-profit, Trash to Treasure (T2T).

T2T was created by the internationally recognized Nordic ski team to collect unwanted furniture from students, staff, and the Laramie community to then refurbish, store, and sell back; all with the intention of keeping useful items out of the landfill.

    moving in, Affordably

While fundraising is a goal of this project, the UW Ski club believes that T2T serves an enormous environmental impact. Good news for all incoming students, the sale is at the end of this month, right in time for everyone to fulfill their house’s needs.

In the past, T2T has generated revenue from various demographics from the UW and Laramie community. Based on the stats from a demographical survey conducted by Co-Coaches, Christi Boggs and Rachel Watson, “We received 153 complete surveys. Forty-nine percent of respondents (n=75) are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with another 17.1% (n=26) pursuing a graduate degree. Sixty-one percent (n=93) responded as working part time or not working at all. T2T also has had a large impact on low income earners with 45.1% (n=61) making less than $20,000 per year and another 16.2%n (n=23) earning between $20,000 and $35,000. In addition T2T had a large impact on international students, 12.5% (n=19) of our survey respondents identified themselves as international students.”  13043810_166704367057601_7446502243702851733_n.jpg

Based on the statistical analysis above, nearly anyone can benefit from T2T. Whether you are moving into the dorms or a house/apartment, the sale can accommodate nearly every single one of your needs.

Quality beds, futons, kitchen tables, microwaves, toasters, coffee makers, textbooks, linens, televisions, bookcases, coffee tables… truly anything you might need to fill the empty corners of your new home, T2T offers at an extremely reasonable price!

    All of Laramie Is Welcome

Generating community interest in recycling unwanted items is important not only for the ski team, but for Laramie as well.

Passion drives this project and the ski team is very excited to see some new faces perusing the towers of furniture, coming later this month. Their hope is for you to purchase the furniture, use it and then donate back to fulfill the environmentally friendly circle.

All proceeds of the sale help fund the teams’ travel, lodging, food, and equipment. In the past, the UW Nordic ski team has represented the United States in the World University Games in Turkey, Slovakia, Kazakhstan and Italy and this year funds will alleviate the cost to compete in the United States Collegiate Ski Association National Championship in Lake Placid, NY,  where the men will be seeking their fourth consecutive overall title.

The sale will take place in the University of Wyoming Field House on Sunday, August 27th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Early bird prices will begin at 8 a.m. for one hour. Early bird shoppers pay $5 and get first look and first pick of the furniture. The general sale will begin at 9:00 a.m. and prices will be reduced by 50% at noon. Even better, all furniture and appliances will be free at 2:00 p.m.

Join the students, staff, and community of Laramie on August 27th for a day of reducing unnecessary waste - you never know what treasures you may find.
