How to Show Kindness in the Classroom

    February 07, 2018

What is kindness? Merriam-Webster defines kindness as the quality or state of being kind or a kind act. Kindness is pulling someone out of the ditch after a heavy Wyoming snowstorm. Kindness is stopping to help the lost dog find its owners. Kindness is helping the new UW freshmen from a foreign country adjust to life in a new home.

Kindness is something that comes naturally to most Wyomingites. In a state where distances can be vast and people are few and far between, we rely on each other to get through the tough times.

    Random Acts of Kindness Week
The week of February 11–17, 2018 is Random Acts of Kindness Week. Help UW College of Education and Kindness Wyoming celebrate the week by committing kind acts and sharing them on social media using the hashtags: #KindnessWyoming, #RAKweek2018, #CaptureKindness, and #UWyoCoED.

One place where kindness is often overlooked is the classroom. It is important for your child to show kindness to their teacher and classmates as it can have a huge impact on learning. Happy children who feel connected to their teacher and peers have a greater sense of belonging and higher self-esteem. This in turn creates a classroom environment that can better stimulate learning.

How can my child and I show kindness in the classroom?
