Homecoming week at UW was October 1-8, 2016 with the theme “Once A Cowboy, Always A Cowboy.” The Big Event, which is a day in which students give back to the community by providing services, was the kick-off to Homecoming–followed by a week of student competitions ranging from the annual Homecoming Sing to the Car Push. The overall winner of the student competitions was the Sigma Chi Fraternity who defended their win from Homecoming 2015.
Alumni and Friends also enjoyed department open houses and receptions, tailgates and reconnecting with friends and classmates. The parade saw 82 entries and UniWyo Federal Credit Union took home the title of overall parade entry winner. The UW Alumni Association honored four individuals over Homecoming with the Distinguished Alumni Awards (Jim Nielson, Sandy Postel and Theo Ratliff) and the Medallion Service Award (Dave Bonner). The Association also celebrated the 50th Club Reunion, which honors the UW induction class of 1966. The UWAA introduced a brand new event, the All Alumni and Friends Reunion and Pep Rally which saw over 180 people in attendance who reunited with old classmates, took photos with the Cowboy Joe Pony and watched a performance which included the Western Thunder Marching Band, UW Cheerleaders and Pistol Pete. To top a successful homecoming week off with a cherry, the Cowboy Football team defeated Air Force 35 to 26! We would like to thank our 2016 Homecoming and Big Event Sponsors and the Laramie Boomerang for their Golden Buckle Sponsorship. We would also like to thank everyone who dedicated their time and effort in the executution of one of the best homecoming celebrations in UW history!
