UW Community Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement (SLCE)

How can helping others help me? Get involved with SLCE!

During college, it is easy to get overwhelmed with classes, jobs, clubs, and friends. It can be difficult to find the energy to add another activity to our already long to-do lists. However, taking time to volunteer can increase awareness of the community, present networking opportunities, build your resume, and boost your overall physical and mental well-being. I feel fortunate that I stepped out of my comfort zone to work with Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement (SLCE) Office at the University of Wyoming because of the abundance of opportunities to engage the traveler, leader, and advocate within.

    Mission Statement

SLCE’s mission is to cultivate engaged global citizens through collaborative experiences and dynamic programs. The acronym SLCE outlines their values of:

Service - Strengthening communities and addressing local and global issues through action.

Leadership - A collaborative process that accomplishes a shared vision while practicing integrity.

Community Engagement - Bringing learning to life, engaging students outside the classroom to fulfill a community need through application of knowledge to real-life experiences.

    The Big Event

SLCE offers a variety of programs and events that impact our campus, community and world. One of the first SLCE events this fall will be The Big Event on Saturday, October 10th. This event promotes campus and community unity as UW students come together for one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community by giving back through service.

    Street Team

New to SLCE this year is The Street Team. The Street Team allows students to play a bigger role in SLCE programming with the opportunity for internship credit*. As a Street Team volunteer or intern, students will gain relevant experience in business practices such as marketing, collaborating to put on large scale events, event planning, and earn awesome SLCE gear in the process. We Invite You!

These opportunities are only a snapshot of what SLCE offers. We invite you to visit our website at to check out the abundance of adventure and service that awaits. As a management major in the College of Business and an active volunteer, SLCE has given me a wealth of relevant experience, memories, networking opportunities, and life-long friendships. Through helping others, I have a better idea of what I would like to pursue with my business degree. I believe that SLCE involvement gives students the real-life experience to innovate and be able to better serve our campus, community, and world.

*Students can get involved in a variety of ways through volunteering with multiple SLCE programs, part-time jobs, internships, or graduate assistantships. Please note that earning internship credit will be dependent on the decision of your college academic advising office. If there is a program or position that interests you, contact SLCE by visiting Wyoming Union 006 & 011, e-mailing or calling 307-766-3117.
